Lucy's Armchairs - A Shining Example of Resilience and Artistry
The order arrived: two Lucy armchairs. The client requested a striking and vibrant blue velvet fabric. A bold choice, indeed, one that promised a delightful contrast against the warm, red tones of cherry wood. The commission was entrusted to our most skilled craftsman, and an extra chair was crafted for our showroom, replacing recently sold floor models.

The chairs began to take shape. The intricate anatomy of an upholstered piece is often overlooked; all the hidden layers and springs are quite complex and remarkable. Adding to the challenge of this build, we were still grappling with the aftermath of the summer's fire, a blaze that claimed many of our irreplaceable jigs and templates. Replicating our classic designs required significant work and collaboration between our upholsterer and furniture makers, piecing together the internal structure from memory and experience.

Gradually, the chairs evolved from a collection of wooden components to inviting, plush forms. Our craftsman meticulously carved the signature curl adorning the armrests – sharp lines juxtaposed with a soft, inviting puffiness, a testament to the human hand. We decided to upholster a third showroom chair in the same sumptuous blue velvet. It's a piece worth seeing, a shining example of our resilience and artistry.
